Oh lawd look at all the wires.
Oh lawd look at all the piss and blood.
Oh lawd look at the ignorant man
Fighting for what’s not deserved.
And the doctors wasting time
When they could be saving children
And the man with all the wires is not
Is not a man who’d aid an injured child.
Is not a man who’d ask for help
When drowning in a sea of borrowed dollars.
When struggling to breath
As death swells in his throat.
Because of him, his ignorance,
And self-disrespect, a child.
A child cries uncared for.
A child cries for sanity in the creeping dark.
A stranger dies one room over.
One room away, just ten feet.
A man who’d waited 168 hours
For his new liver.
The stranger who won’t go home
To sit with his wife and newborn child.
Or live to see the setting sun.
His emergency overlooked by science.
The man who tells his psychiatrist
“I want to die.”
But does not have the will
Nor courage to end himself.
